McMurdo sale completes to Orolia group
The sale of the assets of UK emergency distress beacon manufacturer McMurdo was finalised on Friday November 20th when the transfer from Digital Angel Corporation to Orolia was completed. The purchase price was $9.6 million US as part of a cash free / debt free transaction with no transfer of Account Payables and Account Receivables.

McMurdo Ltd announces forward strategy
1st January debut for Kannad Marine brand name. McMurdo announces today that following Orolia’s successful completion of the acquisition of Kannad in September 2009 and of McMurdo in November (forming Orolia’s new Positioning Division), a new strategy has been implemented for both companies which is designed to focus more clearly on the expertise each offers in their specific markets.

McMurdo SmartFind EPIRB used in Jacques Vabre rescue
A McMurdo SMARTFIND PLUS EPIRB (Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon) was used by Sébastien Josse and Jean-François Cuzon on board their yacht BT in the Transat Jacques Vabre race to alert rescue authorities when they suffered damage in atrocious conditions.

Fast Find PLB gets Special Mention at DAME Awards
McMurdo is delighted to announce that the FAST FIND 210 Personal Locator Beacon has received a Special Mention in the Dame Award in the Life Saving and Safety Equipment Category at the 2009 METS Trade Show in Amsterdam.

A FAST FIND 211 Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was activated on 21st November when a bushwalker was injured in remote mountains west of Jervis Bay, NSW.

McMurdo have presented a number of awards to their distributors in recognition of the sales successes they have achieved in the past 12 months. The presentations were made at last week’s METS Trade Show in Amsterdam.

Transat Jacques Vabre competitor supported by McMurdo
Despite having to retire while in forth place on the Jacques Vabre, Alex Thomson said of his McMurdo PLB prior to his departure, “As I’m just about to do a double handed transatlantic with one of my best friends, and I will feel very secure on board knowing we are both wearing a McMurdo FAST FIND 210 Personal Locator Beacon.”

Optimism at Shanghai
McMurdo has just completed a successful show in China. Marintec China, held in Shanghai was well attended. Five halls featured marine businesses from around the world, and organisers report that the size of the show is increasing year on year.

Exercise Transglobe Leg 5 gets underway
Forty-two British forces service personnel have set off from Perth in WA on three 67ft steel-hulled yachts leaving Fremantle Sailing Club at 1200 local (0400 UT) to tackle a 2,200 nautical mile voyage through the Australian Bight and the notorious Bass Strait en route to Sydney on the east coast of Australia. Each crewmember is equipped with a McMurdo Fast Find 210 PLB for their safety.

Beacons and weather stations a hit at UK Emergency Services Show
McMurdo recently exhibited at the Emergency Services Show held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, UK. This show attracted a wide range of visitors from both public and private sectors. Considerable interest was shown in both McMurdo emergency distress beacon products and Davis Weather instruments.
