McMurdo gains FCC Type approval for MAX PLB range in the USA
McMurdo’s FASTFIND MAX PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) range, the MAX and the MAX G (with 12-channel GPS), has been awarded FCC Type Approval certification, signaling the go-ahead for the PLBs to be sold in the USA.

McMurdo Receives Order to Equip Swedish Pilots with Personal Location Beacons
McMurdo, has received a significant order from exclusive Swedish distributor Cordland Marine AB. McMurdo will initially supply 600 of the new FASTFIND MAX G PLBs (Personal Location Beacons) to KSAB, part of the Swedish private pilots association, KSAK. Cordland are expecting to place further orders before the end of the year.

Ranulph Fiennes to carry McMurdo Personal Locator Beacon on Everest challenge
BRITISH explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes is making a second climb of Mount Everest three years after he abandoned his attempt just 300 metres from the top when he suffered a heart attack.
This time Sir Ranulph, who is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s greatest living explorer, is re-enforcing his safety preparations by carrying a McMurdo FASTFIND PLUS PLB (Personal Locator Beacon). If he finds himself in an emergency, activating the beacon will alert search and rescue authorities.

New Zealand distributor appointment
McMurdo has appointed a new distributor in New Zealand, Bright Ideas ELB Ltd. There is a strong interest in the New Zealand market for McMurdo’s range of EPIRBs, PLBs, NAVTEX, SARTs and emergency VHF radios.

Davis Vantage Pro keeps weather information right up to date for Hampshire yachtsmen
An order has been received from one of the UK’s most popular yacht racing communities, Warsash Sailing Club, in Hampshire for a networked Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather system for their River Hamble Club premises. McMurdo is the UK’s exclusive distributor for Davis weather systems.

Rowers reach trans-Atlantic finish line
The teams in the Atlantic Rowing Challenge are reaching their Antigua destination, after several months of rowing in gruelling conditions. A number of the teams are equipped with McMurdo EPIRBs and PLBs.

McMurdo equipped single handed rower Sam Williams crossed the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to Antigua in 75 days, 4 hours and 43 minutes, reaching his destination at the end of March.

The Tunisian Navy has just purchased a large quantity of NAVTEXs from McMurdo for their service vessels. A number of forces personnel visited McMurdo’s UK headquarters in April from the Tunisian Navy to be trained to use the equipment.
