McMurdo safety equipment awarded Type Approval for Russian shipping

McMurdo has been awarded Type Approval by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping for three key safety products. The SMARTFIND E5 EPIRB and GPS-equipped SMARTFIND G5 EPIRB, along with the McMurdo S4 Rescue SART, are already widely in use globally but the Type Approval means that these products can now be sold in the Russian shipping sector.

James Baker’s rescue – the importance of a PLB

In a dramatic rescue off the coast of Africa in January James Baker was saved by his McMurdo FastFind PLB which his father had given him at the last minute when he waved goodbye on the dockside as James set off on his planned Atlantic crossing. His father Jeremy was quick to tell the story to McMurdo and praise the PLB that probably saved James's life.

RAF locates stolen PLB to a city wheelie bin!

McMurdo has been contacted with a request for repairs by a registered owner whose damaged PLB was found dumped and emitting its distress signal 28 hours after activation. “ I've been most impressed with your product's robust performance under these circumstances and would recommend it to anyone”, owner James Tannock commented.

Company acquisition by Revere supply heralds increased McMurdo sales

US company Revere Supply Inc, McMurdo’s biggest distributor of distress beacons and safety equipment, has joined forces with Imperial International, the original manufacturer of “survival suits”, now known as immersion suits. The new partnership strengthens Revere's access to the maritime market and is expected to re-inforce the sales of McMurdo's safety equipment.

Davis Weather station monitors major traffic tunnel project

A Davis Vantage Pro 2 Weather station is being used to minotor rainfall during the digging of a 3.8 mile tunnel under the Devil's Punch Bowl to free up the A3 Trunk Road at Hindhead, in Surrey, UK, a notorious Traffic Black spot.

McMurdo supports 16-year-old in Round Britain attempt

In the summer of 2008, Jonny Moore will turn 16, and intends to set off on a trip that will take him around Great Britain single-handed, in his Corribee Mk II Casulen II. He expects to take approximately 75-95 days, covering a distance of around 2000 nautical miles. To the best of his knowledge, he will be the youngest person ever to attempt this trip.

McMurdo supports Mini drive around the world

McMurdo has agreed a sponsorship deal with Duncan Mortimer, to assist him in his ‘Around the World in a Mini Clubman’ campaign. McMurdo is donating a Fastfind MAX G Personal Location Beacon (PLB) which Duncan can activate to alert rescue services if he gets into a life threatening situation out of mobile phone range.
