McMurdo PLB saves Swan crew from fire
The owner and three crew of a Swan 44 Kratos were rescued by an Italian coastguard vessel following the activation of a McMurdo FastFind PLB (personal locator beacon) which crew member Matt Sillars said he “always carries in his pocket”.

SmartFind sales exceed expectations
McMurdo has seen more than a 60% increase in the sales of EPIRBs so far this year due to the introduction of the new Smartfind EPIRBs. As a result there have been marked increases in sales of other associated equipment as well.

PLB gets RTCA’s support for general aviation
In a decision that will have far reaching significance for McMurdo, a joint meeting between the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) and the Radio Technical Commission for Maritime (RTCM), has acknowledged that a Personal Location Beacon is a suitable beacon for general aviators in to carry in the USA.

McMurdo is benefiting from stringent legislation that states that training establishments providing GOC and ROC courses with AMERC (The UK’s certificating authority) approved GMDSS simulator systems, must include a dummy EPIRB and SART.
