McMurdo PLB saves Swan crew from fire
The owner and three crew of a Swan 44 Kratos were rescued by an Italian coastguard vessel following the activation of a McMurdo FastFind PLB (personal locator beacon) which crew member Matt Sillars said he “always carries in his pocket”.

SmartFind sales exceed expectations
McMurdo has seen more than a 60% increase in the sales of EPIRBs so far this year due to the introduction of the new Smartfind EPIRBs. As a result there have been marked increases in sales of other associated equipment as well.

PLB gets RTCA’s support for general aviation
In a decision that will have far reaching significance for McMurdo, a joint meeting between the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) and the Radio Technical Commission for Maritime (RTCM), has acknowledged that a Personal Location Beacon is a suitable beacon for general aviators in to carry in the USA.
